Soria has enjoyed a flawless drive so far this season with victories at the Azores Rallye, Rally Islas Canaries and, most recently, Tet Rally Liepāja earlier this month.
The Argentine carries a 27-point lead over Sergio Fuentes into this penultimate round and wants to continue that winning trend.
Although double points are on offer at the final round in Zlín next month, Soria could wrap things this weekend - but for that to happen, he would need to win, Fuentes would need to retire and Andrea Mazzocchi would need to finish outside the top five.
The eventual champion will receive three prize drives in the ERC next season with a Rally4-specification car.
“Our feeling is very good,” Soria told FIAERC.com before the event. “We’re arriving to Rome with three wins in three rallies and hopefully we can have another good result this week.
“We are relaxed, but we know it will be a tough rally. It’s so demanding and so tricky with a lot of speed. We also need to consider the weather, because it will be very hot and very demanding for the car and the crew.
“We want to try and take the win - that’s the truth - but we will see. We have a really good lead in the championship, so we also need to be smart, but we will see stage by stage,” he added.
Just like Mazzocchi, Giorgio Cogni will also compete in front of home crowds. He’ll be hoping to bring home solid points after rolling into retirement in Liepāja.
Ghjuvanni Rossi - seventh in the points - and Emre Hasbay will also be in the mix, as will Patrik Herczig - who rounds out the all-Renault Clio Rally5 entry.
