The Italian driver has had to deal with his fair share of bad luck this season, which started with a retirement at round one in Fafe followed by brake troubles at the Azores Rallye.
He was able to bring home a top-five result at Rally Islas Canarias in May, but then got stuck in a ditch on the opening day in Poland.
After missing Tet Rally Liepāja, Campedelli returned with vengeance on home soil in central Italy - finishing second overall after a solid drive in his Škoda Fabia Rally2.
“Finally, I feel like this was the right time to make it,” he told FIAERC.com. “When you work so hard all the time and something doesn’t go as you really want, it’s difficult to keep the motivation.
“I changed my approach and I gave up fighting against the bad luck. I just said to myself: ‘okay, let it go,’ and finally everything is going better.
“I wanted to enjoy every single stage and do our maximum. Myself and Tania [Canton, co-driver] had a really strong weekend and we are just so happy with the result.”
The 36-year-old revealed plans to contest the final two rounds of the year and praised his Team MRF Tyres colleagues for the steps they have taken in increasing tyre performance.
Campedelli first joined the squad at the beginning of 2021 and admitted it was a match made in heaven.
“It’s a win-win partnership,” he smiled. “I have a good background in developing things with some other car manufacturers and I enjoy being a test driver - I love analysing everything.
“If you consider where we were 12 months ago with the tyres, we have made such big progress together as a team. I think, especially with the recent steps we have made, we can really achieve maximum results.
“Now we look forwards to Barum [Czech Rally Zlín] and also the last round which is yet to be decided. Our plan is to be on the grid.”
