The Latvian youngster soared to ERC stardom back in July when he claimed victory on home soil - winning Tet Rally Liepāja by over a minute after blitzing every single stage.
Sesks was rewarded with another drive in a Team MRF Tyres Škoda Fabia Rally2 at the sixth round in Rome but finished well down the order in 46th overall after going off the road on Saturday’s second speed test.
While he was able to continue the rally and complete every stage, Sesks struggled to post times inside the top-10 and has vowed to try and improve his asphalt pace for the future.
“The beginning of the rally was actually quite hopeful,” he told FIAERC.com. “In Free Practice and also in the first couple of stages the feeling was quite good.
“After we crashed I felt completely lost, but I was still trying. When you have this bad feeling that you try something and it doesn’t work - that was with me all weekend. I was testing some new things and it felt good, but then you see the time and it’s really bad.
“I was kind of expecting this, but it still wasn’t one of the best rallies from the results side. I think it showed that we have a lot of work to do on Tarmac and I think this has to be our main target for the rest of the season,” he added.
With both remaining rounds of this year’s FIA European Rally Championship taking place on asphalt, it’s still unconfirmed whether Sesks will return to MRF’s top-flight team.
He will contest a local rally this weekend with a Fabia Rally2-Kit car, similar to the one which powered him to multiple ERC Open victories earlier in the year.
“I don’t know what’s next, but the next thing for me is definitely Tarmac. That’s my main target now.
“I need to work on everything that’s happening with me in the car - starting with the pace notes making and how we execute it.
“Actually, it’s good to be beaten like this - because now we know what to do. I understand that, okay, I have to work hard now.”
