For Andorran star Vinyes, the championship is his to lose. As points leader, simply finishing the rally will be enough for him to be crowned ERC Open champion. That could be easier said than done, however - especially as this week’s rally is the longest of the season.
Monarri is reliant on his colleague failing to finish. And, if both crews retire, the title goes to Vinyes.
After Thursday evening’s start ceremony in Salou, the action begins on Friday morning. Competitors face 14 stages covering 235.52km before Saturday afternoon’s finish.
