Former ERC champ Mikkelsen debuts new Fabia in competition

The brand-new Škoda Fabia RS Rally2 makes its competitive debut in the hands of Andreas Mikkelsen next week (5 November) at Lausitz-Rallye in Germany.

Mikkelsen won the FIA European Rally Championship - as well as WRC2 - in 2021 and has played an integral role in developing Škoda Motorsport’s new steed, which replaces the highly-successful Fabia Rally2 Evo.

The Norwegian star will give the Fabia RS Rally2 its competitive debut next weekend at the Lausitz-Rallye, a gravel event which takes place in the Saxony region of Germany.

Mikkelsen previously undertook zero car duties with the new machine during Bohemia Rally, an all-tarmac Czech event based in Škoda’s hometown of Mladá Boleslav, although this marks the first time it will go against the clock.

Several other ERC regulars have also entered the event. They include Tom Kristensson in a Hyundai i20 N Rally2 and Erik Cais in a Ford Fiesta, plus Filip Mareš and Adam Březík in a pair of previous-generation Škoda cars.

FIAERC.com understands the new Fabia RS Rally2 is likely to hit the ERC stages in 2023, with several series regulars considering making the switch.
