László ‘happy’ with 2022 progress

Hungarian youngster Martin László is pleased with the steps he’s taken after graduating to Rally2 machinery towards the end of the 2022 season.

Twenty-five-year-old László kicked off the year targeting Junior ERC and ERC4 honours with a Rally4-specification Renault Clio but was hampered by technical problems as well as retirements in Latvia and Rome.

He took the decision to upgrade to a Škoda Fabia Rally2 in the top-level category for the final two rounds, scoring ninth overall with the car at Barum Czech Rally Zlín followed by a top-five result at the season finale.

That, László believes, was the right step to make - and he’s happy with the pace he's shown.

“It’s a bit hard to summarise this season,” he told “After having many disappointing results with the Clio and then changing categories, I think we can be happy with our pace and the results in the Škoda.

“I think I have managed to develop a lot regarding making pace notes and for us to have the best set-up I can now communicate better about the feeling of the car to my engineer.

“Of course, it’s never easy to have a car change mid-season. Luckily, we got a really good car and plenty of good advice from Topp-Cars which made this change a bit easier for me,” he added.

Lászlo added that, while plans for 2023 are still in the works, he hopes to back for a full ERC assault with the same steed.

“We are not sure what next year will bring but we hope to be there at all the rallies with the Škoda,” he said. “But, for that to happen, we still have a lot to work towards.”
