Cais to chase ERC glory with new Škoda

Erik Cais will contest a five-round FIA European Rally Championship programme aboard a brand-new Škoda Fabia RS Rally2 in 2023.

Cais, 23, steered a Ford Fiesta Rally2 to sixth overall in the 2021 ERC and also impressed on his two outings in Fafe and at Barum Czech Rally Zlín this season. He sat inside the top-three on both events before dropping down the order with technical issues.

He recently took delivery of Škoda Motorsport’s latest development and today (Friday) confirmed plans to tackle at least five ERC rallies with the new steed in 2023.

The Czech driver will begin his campaign at the season-opening Rally Serras de Fafe - Felgueiras - Cabreira e Boticas, with stops also scheduled at Rally Islas Canarias, Tet Rally Liepāja, Rally di Roma Capitale and Barum Czech Rally Zlín.

A full eight-round campaign, Cais says, is not off the cards - and his team is currently working hard to secure further European championship starts.

"I have spent the last three seasons behind the steering wheel of the Fiesta Rally2 and I already have enough experience with the four-wheel drive car," he explained. "The new Škoda Fabia RS Rally2 will be the key to success.

"We have the technical support of Škoda Motorsport at our disposal and I am very much looking forward to starting with the new car. We are representatives of the Czech Autoclub AČR and the Czech Republic, so I am happy to drive a Czech car."
