Somaschini enjoyed an even split of gravel and asphalt events in 2022, with outings at Rally Serras de Fafe - Felgueiras - Cabreira e Boticas and the Azores Rallye followed up by Rally Islas Canarias and, of course, Rally di Roma Capitale in her homeland.
Barring a technical failure at the opener, the 28-year-old managed to finish all three remaining fixtures while continually upping the pace aboard her Citroën C3 Rally2.
Eager for more of the same next season, Somaschini has revealed she is now working on plans to tackle six ERC rounds in 2023.
“I would like to do six rallies,” she told FIAERC.com. “The first part of the season, of course, and then maybe we will miss the last two events in Barum (Czech Republic) and Hungary. At the moment I’m trying hard to find the budget and I’m still working on it.
“This season has been an amazing experience, even though all the rallies were completely different. For example, it was my first time in Fafe and there was a lot to take in - all the roads and the pace notes were totally new. I also rolled in the pre-event test which was a bit of a nightmare, but we learned a lot.
“For me, the ERC is something very difficult but I really like it. It’s something different from Italy, my country, but I really enjoy the challenge,” she added.
Alongside her ERC commitments, Somaschini will also continue to drive on home soil while raising awareness for her #CorrerePerUnRespiro project.
“My main aim is ERC,” she explained, “but I also want to keep doing rallies back home in Italy too. It’s important for my charity project #CorrerePerUnRespiro and I would like to reach as many people as possible so that they can understand what is cystic fibrosis and learn more about the importance of the scientific research.”
