Title-winning Nucita back in the ERC with a little help from a legend

Andrea Nucita will mount a bid for FIA European Rally Championship glory in 2023 after signing for Racingnetwork to drive a Hyundai i20 N Rally2.

Co-driven by the experienced Rudy Pollet, Nucita, who won the ERC-based Abarth Rally Cup in 2019, is set benefit from the expert guidance of Franco Cunico.

The 19-time ERC event winner and triple Italian champion, Cunico is the Team Director of Racingnetwork following his appointment by Team Principal Alessandro Furci in December.

Hyundai Motorsport Customer Racing outfit Friulmotor will provide Nucita’s i20 N Rally2 through a technical partnership agreement.

“I’m really happy to be able to continue my adventure with Racingnetwork and I thank Alessandro, Franco and the whole team for renewing their trust in me,” said Nucita, who placed third in the Italy-based International Rally Cup in 2022. “The European Rally Championship is a very high-level series and we can benefit from very important media exposure. We have a lot of things to discover and the main objective of this year is to learn as much as possible to make the most of the experience gained.”

“We tested the car in a recent first contact test,” Nucita explained. “The Hyundai i20 N Rally2 is a competitive car and we will work to adopt the best solutions to enable us to take it to its full potential.”

Sicilian Nucita, 33, has made 11 ERC starts to date, including on six events that feature on the 2023 schedule, with 2019 his most prolific season so far. Then he claimed three wins and two podiums on his way to landing the Abarth Rally Cup one-make title. He was also a two-time winner in the ERC2 category that year and finished runner-up in the final standings to Argentine driver Juan Carlos Alonso.

In a career spanning 14 seasons, Nucita also lists the Italian Junior, 2WD and Production titles on a glowing CV.

The 2023 ERC season begins on Rally Serras de Fafe in Portugal from 10 - 12 March.
