Kristensson outlines ERC ambitions with new car and team

Tom Kristensson has his sights set on FIA European Rally Championship glory with a new car and team behind his 2023 title tilt.

The Swede has signed for Tagai Racing Technology - the team which has previously prepared cars for stars including Mads Østberg - and will drive a Citroën C3 Rally2 for the Hungarian outfit. Fellow countryman Andreas Johansson will once again call the pace notes.

Kristensson, 31, used the ERC as a launchpad at the beginning of his career. After finishing runner-up in the 2018 Junior ERC, he graduated to the FIA Junior WRC, which he won in 2020. That success ultimately led to a factory supported WRC2 drive with M-Sport Ford in 2021.

He returned to the ERC for a part-programme last season, making his debut in the championship’s top category with a Hyundai i20. Success was immediate and he finished second overall at ORLEN Rally Poland whilst also clinching the title in the Polish national series.

Kristensson has confirmed his participation in the season-opening Rally Serras de Fafe (11 - 12 March) and is working hard to secure backing for a full season.

"I'm quite exhausted to be honest," Kristensson told FIAERC.com. "It has been a crazy time to organise this project and it's far from over.

"But, despite that, I'm super excited to do this very nice rally and championship. I am so happy and thankful for all the support I have received."

Registrations are now open for the 2023 ERC and entries can be made via the FIA’s entry portal here.
