Campbell: Latvia's WRC promotion reflects ERC's role in growth and development

Tet Rally Latvia's promotion to the 2024 WRC calendar is a clear testament to the ERC's ability to develop and nurture rallying talent and events, says championship manager Iain Campbell.

The high-speed gravel rally has been a prominent fixture in the FIA European Rally Championship since 2013 and will form the series’ fourth round from 17 - 18 July this year.

In 2024, however, the event will be elevated to the FIA World Rally Championship, making its debut at the sport’s top level.

The decision comes after Latvia’s long-time success within the ERC and reflects WRC Promoter’s commitment to keep at least one slot in the WRC calendar available for such events.

“It's fantastic to see Tet Rally Latvia make the move up to the WRC,” lauded Campbell. “This is a clear indication that the ERC is not only a proving ground for drivers and co-drivers, but also for events looking to step up to the highest level.

“We are delighted for the organisers and are proud of the role the ERC has played in supporting this event's growth. This is a major achievement for Tet Rally Latvia and highlights the important role played by the ERC in developing and nurturing rallying talent and events.”

Peter Thul, Senior Director of Sport for WRC Promoter, added: “It has always been our goal to keep at least one slot in the WRC calendar available to enable an event to rotate from the ERC to the WRC.

“Tet Rally Latvia becoming the first to be granted this slot is a clear recognition of its sporting and promotional excellence, and the commitment of the Latvian Government to rallying.”
