Nucita unveils MRF shod Hyundai for ERC campaign

Andrea Nucita has revealed the eye-catching livery that will adorn his Hyundai i20 N Rally2 for his assault on the 2023 FIA European Rally Championship.

Nucita will drive for Racingnetwork with experienced co-driver Elia De Guio alongside him, and benefit from the expert guidance of 19-time ERC rally winner and triple Italian champion Franco Cunico, who is Team Director of the outfit.

The 33-year-old will also be equipped with MRF Tyres for his championship charge, and he expressed his satisfaction with the Indian manufacturer's products following recent test sessions.

“I am happy with the great availability of MRF Tyres,” he said. “I tried the recommended compounds for the test and got a good first idea of the tyre package. Especially on gravel, I don’t have much to compare to, but the tyres gave me a very good feeling.

“I can base myself on my sensations, which were very good, but we will need to delve into every detail with the first rally in Fafe.”

Vivek Ponnusamy, representing Team MRF Tyres, highlighted the company's unwavering commitment to supporting aspiring drivers in their rally careers.

“Supporting young drivers on the global stage is our motto,” he said. “Our goal is to provide a platform for emerging talent, particularly from the key European markets, to showcase their skills and reach their full potential.

“We also have [11-time Italian champion] Paolo Andreucci on-site at round one to ensure our young drivers receive the guidance they need to improve their skills and challenge for wins,” he added.

Nucita has made 11 ERC starts to date, with 2019 his most prolific season so far. He claimed three wins and two podiums on his way to landing the Abarth Rally Cup one-make title. He was also a two-time winner in the ERC2 category that year and finished runner-up in the final standings to Argentine driver Juan Carlos Alonso.

The season gets underway next week at Rally Serras de Fafe, Felgueiras, Boticas, Vieira do Minho e Cabeceiras de Basto (10 - 12 March), which has attracted a whopping entry of almost 40 top-flight Rally2 cars.
