The Czech driver had a fraught run through Senhor do Monte, the third stage of this opening ERC round. Having already stopped to change a wheel mid-stage, Mareš' fortune took another downturn when, after getting back underway, his Škoda Fabia's front right suspension damper punched its way through the top mount - signalling the end of his day.
"Filip had an impact which caused a puncture," explained a team spokeseperson. "He stopped to change the wheel but a few kilometres later he felt something was not right. The damper came through the top mount and that's the end of today."
