Munoz keen on more ERC action after European debut

Chilean Patricio Muñoz liked what he saw in the FIA European Rally Championship so much that he’s planning to return in the future.

Muñoz travelled from his home in South America to contest Rally Serras de Fafe, Felgueiras, Boticas, Vieira do Minho e Cabeceiras de Basto in northern Portugal earlier this month.

A multiple class champion in his homeland, Muñoz entered the ERC4 category in Fafe in a Peugeot 208 Rally4 and relished the experience, placing third in class alongside co-driver Miguel Recalt from Argentina.

“I am very happy for the result, it was a good rally and the championship is amazing,” Muñoz said afterwards. “It’s my first time in Europe and maybe in the future I come back here because it was really nice, a nice place and a nice rally.”

Although Muñoz reported a trouble-free run on the ERC season opener, he did find the mud and rain on day one particularly challenging.

“In the Chilean championship [sometimes we have these conditions but it] is a little different here,” Muñoz said. “It was very difficult, but I wanted to experience something very different and maybe it’s possible I will come back but maybe I will have to wait.”

As well as harbouring ambitions of a return to the ERC, Muñoz plans to contest his home round of the FIA World Rally Championship, Rally Chile Bio Bío, from 28 September - 1 October. “Chile is a nice place and it will be a nice rally,” he said.
