Cuzma relishes ERC experience gain

FIA European Rally Championship rookie Bogdan Cuzma made sure he didn’t leave northern Portugal empty handed earlier this month.

Although the Romanian driver finished outside the points-paying positions on Rally Serras de Fafe, Felgueiras, Boticas, Vieira do Minho e Cabeceiras de Basto, he was still able to gain plenty of experience at the start of his ERC adventure.

With the vastly experienced Ilka Minor co-driving his Škoda Fabia Rally2 Evo, Cuzma was 27th among the ERC-registered drivers at the finish of the rain-hit event.

“It was quite tough at times with a lot of mud, but we were just trying to improve our speed, trying to do something good,” the 33-year-old Cuzma said. “It was not so easy [on the first day] and the second day was completely different to the first day in terms of the conditions [with less mud]. The grip was changing a lot, but I didn’t have this experience before with this kind of gravel, so we were able to learn many things.”

Cuzma and Minor, from, Austria will continue their experience-building mission when they contest the all-Tarmac Kowax Valašská Rally ValMez in southern Czech Republic from March 31-April 2. The event forms the opening round of the 20-event FIA European Rally Trophy season.
