Round two of the all-action series has attracted a 33-strong ERC entry, published today, which features some of best aspiring world champions, plus drivers eager to showcase their skills at international level in a highly competitive environment.
Crews in cars conforming to the FIA’s Rally3 and Rally4 regulations will also be competing on the event, which will put crews through their paces on 13 stages totalling 190.06 kilometres. The total entry, including competitors from the Spanish and Canary Islands championships stands at 61 cars.
Five hoping to thrive
Five winners of ERC events are among the Rally Islas Canarias entry. They are Yoann Bonato, Efrén Llarena, Mads Østberg, Hayden Paddon and Mārtiṇš Sesks.
ERC: the choice of champions
After 14 national or regional champions contested the ERC season-opening Rally Serras de Fafe, Felgueiras, Boticas, Vieira do Minho e Cabeceiras de Basto last month, Enrique Cruz (pictured top), the reigning Canary Islands champion and Grzegorz Grzyb, who claimed the Slovakian title in 2022, will contest Rally Islas Canarias.
Former WRC Academy members unite
Jan Čerrný and José Suárez, who were part of the WRC Academy when the late Craig Breen took the title in 2011, are among the Rally2 contingent contesting Rally Islas Canarias. Meanwhile, Tom Kristensson is a former Junior WRC champion.
Prize drivers aiming to impress
Diego Ruilobais an exciting prospect appearing on the entry list as his prize for winning the Peugeot Rally Cup Ibérica in 2022. He’s due to compete in a Citroën C3 Rally2. Other Spaniards registered for ERC points include Óscar Palomo, Javier Pardo and Miguel Ángel Suárez.
Forza Italia!
Simone Bertolotti, Simone Campedelli, Roberto Daprà, Alessandro Grillo, Andrea Mabellini, Andrea Nucita and Rachele Somaschini (pictured below) will fly the Italian flag on Rally Islas Canarias.
A is for Allen and Armstrong
Philip Allen and Jon Armstrong are two drivers from Northern Ireland competing on Rally Islas Canarias.
Who’s Hungary?
Hungarian fans can count on Miklós Csomós, Bendegúz Hangodi and Mártin Lászlo to chase ERC success.
Filip Mareš is one of the two Czech prospects in action, Austria is represented by two-time national champion Simon Wagner (pictured above), his country’s big hope for international success with Mathieu Franceschi (pictured below) the French gravel champion from 2022.
Norman Kreuter, Jarosław Koltun and Bogdan Cuzma will travel from Germany, Poland and Romania respectively to take part.
