ERC’s Nucita sets out his Rally Islas Canarias goals

Andrea Nucita has given an insight into his preparations for Rally Islas Canarias, round two of the 2023 FIA European Rally Championship – and his target for the all-asphalt counter.

Nucita, who will drive a Hyundai i20 N Rally2 for Racingnetwork on MRF tyres, took part on Rally Islas Canarias when it formed part of his Abarth Rally Cup schedule in 2019.

He finished fourth in class then and yesterday’s test marked his first opportunity to reacclimatise to Gran Canaria’s high-grip roads.

“It has been a long time between Fafe and this round,” said the Italian. “We have analysed the details, talked with the whole team and we are ready to face our rivals.”

“The Tarmac of the Canary Islands is perhaps one of the most challenging of this season, but I am relaxed. I am looking forward to regaining the best driving sensations to try to get a good result.”

Nucita will be reunited with Rudy Pollet for Rally Islas Canarias, which takes place from 4 - 6 May, after his fellow Italian was unavailable for the Fafe season opener in March. He has set out his targets for round two of the ERC season.

“The target is to be competitive and let the results speak for themselves,” Nucita said. “The championship is demanding so we will try to optimise every opportunity to confront our opponents to the maximum. The detail will make the difference, we will also see the weather, it will be tough.

“I have covered a lot of kilometres on Tarmac in recent years, but I don't think this is a real advantage in relation to Rally Islas Canarias. The grip on these roads is very different from what we have in Italy, and the race is recognised by everyone as a demanding event that should never be underestimated.”
