Sesks helps MRF Tyres to latest ERC Winning Tyre award

MRF Tyres is the latest recipient of the Winning Tyre award in the FIA European Rally Championship following Mārtiṇš Sesks’ ORLEN 79th Rally Poland victory on Sunday.

Starting from Rally Islas Canarias earlier this month, the ERC Winning Tyre accolade goes to the official tyre partner whose products equip the triumphant driver pairing on each of the remaining ERC events. Hankook, Michelin, MRF and Pirelli are the ERC’s four official tyre partners.

After Yoann Bonato helped Michelin to the inaugural ERC Winning Tyre award on the all-asphalt Rally Islas Canarias, it was MRF Tyres’ turn to celebrate on the back of a highly successful outing on Poland’s high-speed gravel stages.

“When you have a good car, good team and good tyres the result comes,” said Sesks. “The MRF tyres were very good and in the rutted stages where you could have problems there were no problems. It's a pleasure to be able to perform at such a high level. Maybe it looks easy on the videos but it’s not easy and it needs a big focus. Every work you do, every input you make is getting the benefits and everyone is working very hard.”

For the second event running, three different tyre partners filled the first three positions in the final overall classification. Behind Sesks (Škoda Fabia RS Rally2), Hayden Paddon drove his Pirelli-equipped Hyundai i20 N Rally2 to the runner-up spot with home hero Miko Marczyk third aboard a Fabia RS Rally2 running on Michelin tyres.

It was also a successful weekend for Hankook, which began its tenue as the FIA Junior ERC Championship’s official tyre partner. Equipping 16 rising stars competing a four different types of Rally4 car (M-Sport Ford Fiesta Rally4, Opel Corsa Rally4, Peugeot 208 Raly4 and Renault Clio Rally4) Ola Nore took victory ahead of Norbert Maior and Victor Hansen with the young drivers quick to praise performance and durability of the Hankook tyres.

Tet Rally Liepāja in Latvia is next on the all-action ERC schedule from 16 - 18 June, the second of three consecutive fast-paced gravel events.
