Happy again Cais savours ERC points

Erik Cais was “happy again” following his haul of FIA European Rally Championship points in Poland earlier this month.

The Michelin-equipped Czech star had endured a frustrating sequence of results of late, but he was able to put those disappointments behind him to finish ninth on ORLEN 79th Rally Poland.

“I’m happy we reached the finish,” said Cais, who drives a Škoda Fabia RS Rally2 for Orsák Rallysport. “For sure the level could be higher but I’m happy about this result because I was struggling since the start of the season on gravel and I’m happy that I made an improvement in my driving style and my confidence, and also as a crew, so these things make me happy.

“There was not big pushing [on this rally] because I know I need to be intelligent. It would have been easy to make a mistake but I wanted to finish the rally in a good mood and don’t do any mistakes, now I’m really happy.”

Cais, who was co-driven in Poland by Igor Bacigál, said his top 10 finish in the ERC will set him up well for FIA World Rally Championship when he contests Rally Italia Sardegna from today (Thursday).

“For the mindset for sure [the result helps] because after [Vodafone Rally de] Portugal the mindset was not that good but to reach the finish and reach it quite well with some good stage times near to the fastest guys makes me happy and more confident.”

Cais will return to ERC duty on Tet Rally Liepāja in Latvia from 16 - 18 June.
