Kristoffersson: Ice is nice but shorts and t-shirts will make for happy ERC fans

Swedish motorsport legend Johan Kristoffersson reckons fans attending round five of the FIA European Rally Championship in Sweden next week will be in for a real treat.

The inaugural BAUHAUS Royal Rally of Scandinavia, which runs out of Karlstad from 6 - 8 July, is essentially a summer version of the FIA World Rally Championship-counting Rally Sweden when it was based in Värmland prior to its move north to Västerbotten for 2022.

As well as the exciting opportunity to watch top drivers from the ERC tackling the high-speed gravel stages, fans are expected to be able to do so in warm and dry weather, particularly on the opening two days of the event.

Speaking earlier this year, Kristoffersson, who is currently preparing for his home round of the FIA World Rallycross Championship in Höljes this weekend, said: “The roads are fast on snow but I think they will be even faster and wider on the gravel so it’s going to be spectacular and I can’t wait to see the cars fly over Colin’s Crest for the first time without the snow. It will also be a great experience for all the spectators. It’s nice in the winter conditions but it maybe even better in shorts and t-shirts.”

Although Kristoffersson won’t be attending BAUHAUS Royal Rally of Scandinavia, Ole Christian Veiby will drive a Volkswagen Polo GTI R5 for his family team, Kristoffersson Motorsport.

Meanwhile, event CEO Glenn Olsson has outlined the importance of the rally’s title partnership agreement with BAUHAUS, a major chain of do-it-yourself stores.

“We feel honoured that BAUHAUS wants to put its name on our Swedish competition in the FIA ERC,” Olsson said. “The partnership is starting immediately and we see an exciting journey ahead of us, where in the coming years we can build joint growth in a primarily Swedish-Norwegian market. Rally fans are a handy target group that matches BAUHAUS customers well. And this autumn, with a newly opened warehouse in Karlstad, the presence is also regional.”

BAUHAUS marketing director Johan Saxne added: “BAUHAUS continues to support motorsport in various ways and the rally culture in Värmland is close to our hearts. For us, this is a natural step to create a deeper anchoring around our new venture in Karlstad going forward.”
