Why it’s ERC bounce-back time for Bonato

Yoann Bonato is preparing to “bounce back” in the FIA European Rally Championship when Rally di Roma Capitale hosts the action from 28 - 30 July.

After winning Rally Islas Canarias in May, Bonato claimed two consecutive victories in the French Tarmac championship and was on course for a hat-trick on Rallye Aveyron Rouergue - Occitanie earlier this month when a mechanical failure caused a rare retirement.

The CHL Sport Auto driver is now targeting Rally di Roma Capitale to not only build on his impressive start to his 2023 ERC campaign but to also gain revenge for his recent DNF.

“We would have liked to have continued our good momentum, and it started well with the lead, but that is part of motorsport,” Bonato said of his Rallye Aveyron Rouergue - Occitanie exit. “But this in no way takes away from the work of the whole team and of Citroën Racing. The other results prove it and we will have the chance to bounce back at Rally Di Roma Capitale.”

Bonato, whose Michelin-equipped Citroën C3 Rally2 is co-driven by Benjamin Boulloud, took a break from his Rally di Roma Capitale preparations to watch the FIA World Rally Championship’s finest in his role as an expert commentator on Canal+ Sport’s live coverage of last weekend’s Rally Estonia.

Currently seventh in the provisional ERC standings, Bonato finished third on Rally di Roma Capitale last season (pictured below).
