With the ERC enjoying extensive live
coverage on Rally.tv and myriad broadcast outlets globally, what the stars say
at the end of stages is transmitted around the world. And a lot of what is said
at stage ends is always highly entertaining.
In the latest online poll, fans of ERC have
until 17 September to vote for their favourite from the shortlist below.
Love was in the air at the end of leg one of
Rally Islas Canarias in May. Following an impressive display aboard his
Michelin-equipped Citroën C3 Rally2, Yoann Bonato made his feelings clear to
stage-end reporter Ben Constanduros – and revealed the predicament he found
himself in. “I definitely love my wife, but I also love my tyres and my car so
I have to choose, no?”.
After battling through the loose-surface
gravel of Orlen 79th Rally Poland, Frenchman Franceschi had a
question for stage-end reporter Seb Scott: “It was a really slippery stage. You
know the brand Mr Pop? It’s a cleaning brand, it’s me but with some hair.”
The outgoing European champion was in
jovial mood at Orlen 79th Rally Poland. Although the loss of any
livestock is always regrettable, Llarena referenced an incident earlier in the
day when he spoke to Seb Scott. “This morning we hit a chicken, and we broke a
bit of the front bumper, maybe it’s the most expensive chicken nugget that I
ever paid [for]. Okay, can I tell you a joke? Are you ready? Why chicken is so
funny? Becauuuussse…”
While Italian Campedelli is ranked among
the ERC’s fastest drivers – he’s a stage winner in the championship this season
no less, he admitted keeping up with his rivals was a struggle on the season
opener at Rally de Serras de Fafe, Felgueiras, Boticas, Vieira do Minho e
Cabeceiras de Basto in northern Portugal. “It looks like I’m a good old man.
The guys in front of me are crazy, I tried what I can but the level is so
scary, so shitting in my pants all the time.”
