ERC stars assemble for Central European Rally

Several drivers will be flying the FIA European Rally Championship flag on this week’s inaugural Central European Rally, the penultimate round of the 2023 FIA World Rally Championship.

Adam Březík, Erik Cais, Miko Marczyk, Josh McErlean, Albert von Thurn und Taxis, Simon Wagner and FIA ERC Junior star Timo Schulz all have recent ERC event experience and are entered for the Tarmac event, which features stages in Austria, Czech Republic and Germany from Thursday until Sunday.

Cais, a stage winner on Barum Czech Rally Zlín and Rally Hungary this season, will compete in a Škoda Fabia RS Rally2 alongside fellow Czech Daniel Trunkát. The 24-year-old will be a contender for FIA WRC2 honours.

He said: “It’s really good and to have the World Rally Championship in my home is something incredible. Okay it’s four and a half hours from where I live but it’s still the Czech Republic and I know it will be a big, big event. A lot of spectators should be there but it won’t be an easy rally and the weather could make it even harder.”

For Germany’s Timo Schulz, a two-time winner in the Hankook-supported FIA Junior ERC Championship said, the opportunity to compete on a WRC event at the end of his first season of international rallying represents a huge opportunity.
