Carlberg’s Junior ERC move is his prize for winning the ADAC Opel e-Rally Cup in 2023 and will give him the opportunity to follow in the wheel tracks of previous winners Laurent Pellier (2021) and Timo Schulz (2022, below).
The 23-year-old, whose father Torbjörn co-drove his Schmack Motorsport-run Opel Corsa e-Rally to title glory, secured the career-changing incentive on last October’s Central European Rally with a five-point margin over German driver Max Reiter.
He said at the time: “We really did it. There was so much pressure on us all weekend. I was so nervous because while I knew I really just had to finish, I also realised how quickly a mistake could happen in these incredibly difficult conditions. In the end, I was no longer thinking about the rally result, but only about the championship and I am overjoyed that we brought the Corsa Rally Electric to the finish in one piece. Many thanks to everyone who helped, and thanks especially to Max and Conny [Nemenich], who were such strong, fair opponents to us throughout the season.”
