Tweaks to ERC Teams' championship rules for 2024

The FIA European Rally Championship for Teams has undergone a rules tweak for 2024 designed to make the competition easier to follow and understand.

From this season, cars entered in any ERC category (ERC, ERC3 and ERC4) by a registered team can score points based on the result of the final rally classification.

It’s a move away from the 2023 system when points were awarded to the top 15 overall eligible finishers in an effort to provide more incentive for Rally2-equipped squads to enter the FIA European Rally Championship for Teams.

In order to score points in the 2024 ERC Championship for Teams, competitors must register with the FIA in any ERC category and use an eligible car from the FIA Rally Cars Pyramid.

The two best placed cars from each team according to the final classification of each rally can score points with cars entered in any ERC category. Additional cars entered by the same team may neither score points nor take points away from other entered cars. Teams can count their best seven scores.

A registered team entering more than three cars on an event must nominate the three cars scoring points for the Teams' Championship by making a declaration to the FIA prior to the completion of the administrative checks. If no declaration is made, the Team will not score points for the event concerned.

Team MRF Tyres won the coveted FIA European Rally Championship for Teams for the second season running in 2023. Arun Mammen, Vice Chair and Managing Director of MRF Ltd, accepted the trophy from FIA vice president for Sport Europe, Anna Nordkvist, during the FIA Rally & Circuit Prize Giving in Baku last December.
