Bulgarian driver Tomov has joined HRT Racing – the outfit that guided Norbert Maior to the Junior ERC title and runner-up in the ERC4 category in 2023 – having made a one-off ERC appearance on Rally di Roma Capitale last July.
He said: “I am honoured to be participating in the European Rally Championship in 2024. I will be racing a Peugeot 208 Rally4, with eight exciting rounds ahead. I am looking forward to this challenge.”
A statement from HRT Racing read: “Aleksandar Tomov, despite his young age, is already starting to make his name in various championships. This year he wants to go another step by launching a multi-year programme, so he will spend the whole season in the European Rally Championship in our team’s Peugeot 208 Rally4.”
Co-driven by Yavor Brankov, Tomov began his rally career in 2022 at the wheel of a standard-specification Hyundai i20 Coupe before he switched to a Renault Clio Rally5 in 2023.
In addition to his ERC debut, Tomov experienced another career high when he won the ERT Junior section of Rally Bulgaria, a round of the FIA European Rally Trophy. He completed the season as his country’s Junior champion.
Tomov won’t turn 19 until after V Rally Hungary opens the 2024 ERC season from 12 - 14 April.
