Calle Carlberg: Carlberg, 23, joins the ADAC Opel Rally Junior Team for an FIA Junior ERC Championship assault, his prize for winning the ADAC Opel Electric Rally Cup Powered by GSE in 2023. It’s a step into the unknown for Carlberg, who has no knowledge of the six rallies that form the Hankook-equipped Junior ERC. He’ll also be working with new co-driver Jørgen Eriksen, from Norway. Nevertheless, the Swede is highly rated and will be one to watch aboard his Opel Corsa Rally4.
Kyle McBride: With support from the Motorsport Ireland Rally Academy, the 20-year-old has acquired a Peugeot 208 Rally4 and is working on finalising the necessary budget to contest the six-event Junior ERC season in 2024. McBride, who works as a car mechanic, is preparing to make the step up on the back of finishing a close runner-up to Kyle White in the Junior section of the British Rally championship in 2023, only his second year in Rally4 machinery.
Liam Müller: Nineteen-year-old Müller (below) is bracing himself for the challenge of Junior ERC after choosing the Hankook-equipped category to continue learning and progressing. The second-generation driver, a former autocross competitor, will compete in an Opel Corsa Rally4 run by leading German team Schmack Motorsport. Müller, who will be co-driven by Alexander Hirsch, brings with him experience gained from competing in myriad rallies in his homeland and across central and eastern Europe.
Karl-Markus Sei: Estonian student Sei plans to utilise experience gained racing karts when he mounts his maiden ever-present Junior ERC bid in 2024. The 19-year-old tried Junior ERC for size for the first time on Tet Rally Liepāja last season and set a succession of top-five category stage times before he dropped out during the second leg. Sei, who has never rallied on asphalt before, will continue to rely on Peugeot 208 Rally4 power with ALM Motorsport overseeing his campaign.
Aleksandar Tomov: The Bulgarian hopeful will count on a team with considerable ERC pedigree when he contests the series full time in 2024. Tomov, 18, has joined HRT Racing – the outfit that guided Norbert Maior to the Junior ERC title and runner-up in the ERC4 category in 2023 – having made a one-off ERC appearance on Rally di Roma Capitale last July.
V-Híd Rally Hungary, based in the city of Veszprém, opens the 2024 ERC season from 12 - 14 April.
