Wagner plans for more ERC time

Simon Wagner is aiming for more FIA European Rally Championship time in 2024, starting with next week’s V-Híd Rally Hungary.

In addition to his bid to win his national title for a fourth year running, Wagner hopes to tackle an expanded roster of ERC events with co-driver Gerald Winter by his side once again.

“We will be back in ERC, probably doing more events than in the past,” the 30-year-old said. “We will do the third round of the Austrian championship and then, immediately, the ERC in Hungary.

“We have a new Škoda Fabia RS, but the same Eurosol team, the same co-driver and, of course we’re with Michelin again. But we have fresh motivation and thanks to all partners to make it possible once more to prove ourselves with the best in ERC.”

The three-time podium finisher continued: “I expect absolutely crazy competition this year in the ERC and I’m very much looking forward to the events. I love driving on gravel even more than on Tarmac but I’m missing so much experience on gravel having gone nine months with no gravel and two gravel rallies in the past one and a half years, unfortunately.

“That means our goal is to enjoy and have fun in Hungary and set consistent and reliable pace without mistakes. Maybe we can finish in the top eight and get away with some points.”

Wagner and Winter will contest the Lavanttal Rallye from today (Friday) until Saturday. V-Híd Rally Hungary follows from 12 - 14 April.
