ERC3 king Kohn on the throne in Hungary

Ford Fiesta Rally3 driver Filip Kohn picked up where he left off on Saturday to complete a speedy Sunday with victory in the FIA ERC3 Championship on V-Híd Rally Hungary.

Co-driven by Briton Tom Woodburn, the Czech won all 13 stages of the demanding gravel event to triumph ahead of Poland’s Igor Widłak, the 2022 ERC3 champion, by 5min 12.0sec.

Martin Ravenščak finished third with Turkish teenager Kerem Kazaz rounding out the finishers in fourth position.

The quartet were also contesting the inaugural ERC Fiesta Rally3 Trophy event, which hands incentives from Pirelli and Gulf Race Fuels to the successful driver.

Kohn receives 12 new Pirelli tyres for use on the next event he contests, Widłak gets six new Pirelli tyres with two new Pirelli tyres going to Ravenščak.

Gulf Race Fuels will reward Kohn with 300 litres of Gulf MSR EVO2 fuel, Widłak 150 litres and Ravenščak and 50 litres.

“Today was quite fine, we had a really good second stage today, it was really nice and enjoyable,” Kohn said. “The other stages were really, really rough and we had a hard time but we got through with no big damage so we are happy.”

In addition to landing his maiden FIA Junior ERC victory, Max McRae claimed top spot in FIA ERC4 for the first time driving a Peugeot 208 Rally4.

“We were driving at 50 per cent sometimes just to get through because you were really having to dodge the rocks at times,” McRae said. “It’s a good start to the championship and hopefully we can keep this going on the next rounds and see where we end up.”

Co-driven by Cameron Fair, McRae beat Hungarian ex-professional league fusbal player Bertalon Martón to first place by 1min 09.1sec.

Jaspar Vaher finished third followed by fellow Junior ERC drivers Mille Johansson, Aoife Raftery and Jack Brennan.

Davide Pesavento was seventh as Cristiana Oprea bagged a strong eighth place on a rare start on gravel. Alfred Kramer and Liam Müller rounded out the top 10.

Rally Islas Canarias is next up on the ERC3 and ERC4 schedules, the Tarmac-based island event taking place from 2 - 4 May.
