The 29-year-old was at the wheel of an M-Sport Poland-run Ford Fiesta Rally2 having claimed the FIA ERC3 title in 2023 driving a Fiesta Rally3.
He said: “It was a stellar weekend in Hungary with a fantastic result for us, eighth overall after 12 really tough stages. It’s been a great start to the season already and we were happy with where our pace was.
“We were improving with each kilometre and when I found a better confidence and feeling I was more comfortable with everything.”
Armstrong added: “The Sunday stages were very tough and rough with a lot of bedrock to try to get through. Our pace was okay and we were doing well with the people around us.” Motorsport Ireland Rally Academy-backed Armstrong will switch his focus to Tarmac next when he contests Rally Islas Canarias from 2 - 4 May.
