ERC drivers head home to get Rally Islas Canarias ready

Leading FIA European Rally Championship drivers have returned home to complete their preparations for Rally Islas Canarias, round of the eight-event ERC season.

Defending champion Hayden Paddon (above) will be competing in Gran Canaria from 2 - 4 May after gaining Tarmac time at Highlands Motorsport Park, located on New Zealand’s South Island, where he was diving a Hyundai i30 N track day car.

After a break of five years, Miko Marczyk is contesting this weekend’s Rajd Świdnicki in his native Poland as he bids for some time on Tarmac ahead of the all-asphalt Rally Islas Canarias.

“We want to be on Rally Islas Canarias in the best possible shape,” said ORLEN-supported Marczyk. “The 170 kilometres of Rajd Świdnicki will give us the opportunity to prepare.”

FIA ERC3 contender Kerem Kazaz is in action on Rally Bodrum in Turkey, while ACI Team Italia-backed FIA Junior ERC duo Geronimo Nerobutto and Mattia Zanin are contesting Rally della Marca and Rallye Elba respectively.

Liam Müller isn’t returning home to Germany but he will be competing on Rallye Elba in Italy behind the wheel of an Opel Corsa Rally4, similar to the one he will use to chase more Junior ERC points on Rally Islas Canarias.

Prior to his weekend Motorsport Ireland Rally Academy driver Jack Brennan completed the Birr Stages Rally, while Yoann Bonato revved up to chase a repeated Rally Islas Canarias win by finishing first on Rallye Rhône Charbonnières from 19 - 20 April.

Erik Cais and Filip Mareš entered Rallye Šumava Klatovy in Czech Republic last weekend.
