Swedish stars use national rally to get a head start for home ERC run

Swedish FIA Junior ERC stars Calle Carlberg and Mille Johansson used the latest round of their national championship to prepare for next week’s BAUHAUS Royal Rally of Scandinavia, round three of the 2024 FIA European Rally Championship.

Carlberg and Johansson were in action on Rally Uppland last weekend, taking their Opel Corsa Rally4s to 10thand sixth respectively in the 2WD category, which catered for all cars running without four-wheel drive.

Afterwards, Carlberg said: “We weren’t here to compete. We were here to test. What we got from the competition is a thousand times more important than the result. It’s in two weeks that counts. After some adjustments we found one thing on the car that allowed us to be somewhere we want to be before the Royal Rally.”

The gravel-based BAUHAUS Royal Rally of Scandinavia takes place from 13- 15 June. As well as counting as round three of the overall ERC, the Karlstad event is the third round of the Junior ERC season.

Johansson, the leader of the Hankook-equipped category after two rounds by a two-point margin ahead of Max McRae, said of BAUHAUS Royal Rally of Scandinavia: “Of course it’s one of the highlights of the season and I’m really looking forward to it.”

Isak Reiersen, who announced his BAUHAUS Royal Rally of Scandinavia entry last week after claiming Junior ERC honours in Sweden in 2023, finished third overall on Rally Uppland behind winner Patrik Flodin and former ERC regular Tom Kristensson.
