Star drivers sign up to pack ERC Royal Rally entry list

Star drivers in abundance will contest round three of the 2024 FIA European Rally Championship, BAUHAUS Royal Rally of Scandinavia.

Featuring 23 top-of-the-range Rally2 cars, five Rally3 cars, plus 14 Rally4 cars, the entry list is not only a who’s who of European rallying excellence but also a showcase of some of Scandinavia’s most talented drivers.

Defending ERC champion Hayden Paddon tops the entry aboard his Pirelli-equipped Hyundai i20 N Rally2 followed by 2022 title winner Efrén Llarena, who pilots a Škoda Fabia RS Rally2 for Team MRF Tyres.

Oliver Solberg, the winner of the first BAUHAUS Royal Rally of Scandinavia in 2023, returns to defend his crown, swapping his Volkswagen Polo GTI R5 for a Fabia RS Rally2.

Current championship leader Mathieu Franceschi (below) is seeded number four in his Michelin-shod Fabia with Simone Tempestini next up, the multiple Romanian champion bidding for victory number two in this year’s ERC following his maiden triumph in Hungary back in April.

Like Tempstini, Miklós Csomós will make his BAUHAUS Royal Rally of Scandinavia debut, as will number eight seed Miko Marczyk.

Jon Armstrong, who is seeded seventh in a Ford Fiesta Rally2, Andrea Mabellini and Norwegian hero Mads Østberg all have previous experience of the Karlstad event.

Filip Mareš is the lead Hankook runner and Toyota GR Yaris Rally2 driver, while other likely frontrunners include Swedes Johan Kristoffersson, a multiple World Rallycross Championship winner, and Isak Reiersen, who took Junior ERC honours on his home event last season.

Norway’s 2003 world champion Petter Solberg is entered for his first top level rally since 2019. His compatriots Eyvind Brynildsen and Frank Tore Larsen, Latvia’s Mārtiṇš Sesks plus Finn Mikko Heikkilä are also expected to set rapid stage times.

Igor Widłak (below) starts BAUHAUS Royal Rally of Scandinavia for the first time aiming to defend his FIA ERC3 Championship lead with Filip Kohn bidding for back-to-back ERC Fiesta Rally3 Trophy wins and ex-circuit racer Tristan Charpentier preparing for his ERC debut.

Mille Johansson (Opel Corsa Rally4) starts his home round of the Hankook-equipped FIA Junior ERC category on top of the provisional points followed by Max McRae (Peugeot 208 Rally4). Local star Patrik Hallberg (below) finished runner-up to Reiersen in Junior ERC last season and has the talent to go one better in 2024.
