Tempestini keeps winning as Royal ERC appointment awaits

Simone Tempestini revved up for his BAUHAUS Royal Rally of Scandinavia debut this coming week with victory on Aurskog-Høland Rally in Norway yesterday (Saturday).

The early FIA European Rally Championship leader, following his victory on the V-Híd Rally Hungary season opener in April, used the Norwegian points round to re-familiarise himself with high-speed gravel driving as he prepares to start Sweden’s ERC counter for the first time.

With regular co-driver Sergiu Itu at home in Romania preparing for a packed schedule of ERC and Romanian championship events for the pair, Tempestini recruited Francesca Maior for Aurskog-Høland Rally. He also enlisted the services of former ERC regular Tom Kristensson to help develop a set-up for the fast-paced loose-surface stages.

Marco Tempestini, who used to compete in the ERC but now helps to oversee his son’s career, said: “With no shakedown and pre-test, Simone and Francesca adapted very fast to each other and could reach this good result for both, a second victory for Simone from three participations with the Škoda Fabia RS Rally2 and a first overall victory for Francesca in her career at the debut in a Rally2 car. It was also the opportunity for Francesca to gain some more experience for her career.”

Frank Tore Larsen, another favourite for a strong BAUHAUS Royal Rally of Scandinavia result, finished second on Aurskog-Høland Rally with Henning Solberg, Petter’s older brother, taking third.

Meanwhille, Tempestini and Itu will be reunited for Tuesday’s BAUHAUS Royal Rally of Scandinavia test ahead of the round three of the ERC season taking place from 13 - 15 June.
