Brynildsen hasn’t competed in the ERC since 2019 but remains a formidable competitor whenever his business and family commitments allow, as he demonstrated by winning the Norwegian championship-counting Numedalsrally in March and finishing fifth in WRC2 on Croatia Rally in April.
And the 36-year-old, who co-presents and provides expert analysis for Rally.tv’s ERC and WRC coverage from time to time (pictured below), including during last year’s BAUHAUS Royal Rally of Scandinavia, reckons his bit-part rallying schedule has been a factor in his ongoing success.
“I choose really early that I want a family, a second life, I don’t want to spend all my time in rallying, that’s so important to me,” Brynildsen said. “I met my wife when I was 16, we have three kids and when I come home everybody’s happy. Maybe that’s why I’ve never been a factory driver because I didn’t go all-in, I’ve always had a family. But you have to enjoy, enjoy, enjoy, smile, live your life and have fun. Have rallying and then go home, I think it’s really important.”
Brynildsen will contest BAUHAUS Royal Rally of Scandinavia in a GK Door Team Sweden Volkswagen Polo GTI R5 as team-mate to Christoffer Haglund, a successful businessman and national-level driver who co-founded the squad in 2023. Brynildsen’s fellow Norwegian Jørn Listerud will co-drive.
Colin’s Crest is calling for Brynildsen
Eyvind Brynildsen will have a score to settle when he makes his first BAUHAUS Royal Rally of Scandinavia appearance behind the wheel.
He was co-presenting Rally.tv’s live coverage of the event in July 2023 when his fellow Norwegian, Mads Østberg, broke his Colin’s Crest jump record.
Brynildsen leapt 45 metres aboard a Ford Fiesta R5 on Rally Sweden in February 2016 (pictured above) but Østberg landed two metres further in a Citroën C3 Rally2 during the inaugural BAUHAUS Royal Rally of Scandinavia when Colin’s Crest was included on the Colins stage during day two of the high-speed gravel event.

From four ERC starts, Eyvind Brynildsen has a stage win and a best result of fourth place on EKO Acropolis Rally in 2018 (pictured below) to his name.
