Colosseum stage takes ERC back to the heart of Italy’s capital city

The FIA European Rally Championship’s iconic Colosseum super special stage will once again provide a stunning start to next month’s Rally di Roma Capitale, round five of the all-action series.

Organised by Motorsport Italia and former world title-winning driver Max Rendina, the stage around the historic Colosseum, one of the world’s most famous landmarks, is due to begin at 20:05 local time on Friday 26 July. Measuring 1.30 kilometres in length, SSS Colosseo ACI Roma follows the traditional driving parade through Italy’s capital city.

The inclusion of the Colosseum stage has been made possible through the vital assistance of Assessorato Grandi Eventi, Turismo, Sport e Moda di Roma Capitale, represented by Alessandro Onorato, with the support of the Grandi Eventi Office.

Alessandro Onorato said: “We are proud to host an event of this magnitude in our city. The show stage at the Colosseum, for the third consecutive year, will be a world showcase and an opportunity to promote the beauty, exclusivity and uniqueness of the city of Rome also in a prestigious sporting context such as the one of Rally di Roma Capitale. The images of the cars speeding through the centre of Rome will go around the world. It will be a great opportunity to promote abroad our city.”

Max Rendina added: “Our goal is always to improve what we have achieved in previous years. We expect a large number of participants and spectators, and we will try to maximise this opportunity as the only Italian event on the European Rally Championship calendar. Thanks to the support of Assessore Alessandro Onorato and his staff, we know we can make our mark again this year.”

Rally di Roma Capitale will continue to be based in the thermal spa town of Fiuggi south of Rome where a number of fan activities are being planned at the new Palacongressi area. The event, which runs from 26 - 28 July, is also a round of the Campionato Italiano Assoluto Rally Sparco.

Meanwhile, Delfi Rally Estonia is up next on the ERC schedule from 5 - 7 July.
