Home ERC hero Marczyk explains Silesia moment

Miko Marczyk has explained his time loss on stage three of Rally Silesia, his home round of the FIA European Rally Championship.

The double Polish champion dropped from third to fifth place when he went off the road nearing the finish of SS3, the 10.80km Ochaby test.

“We were off in the gravel part on the last corner, it was very muddy and it was fortunate we come back after some seconds of loss,” said Marczyk, who was fastest on the Katowice Super Special Stage on Friday night in his bid to finish runner-up in the final ERC standings.

“It was a long right corner that tightens, the finish of the gravel part. It was muddy, I was already opening the throttle and I lost the position from the road

“I would say not a big moment for a big crash but a big moment that we can even stay there because I remember the story of Simone Campedelli from Rajd Polski. In a hairpin right he go inside the corner and he stuck there in the water. It was possible for me in this situation because there was a lot of water but we could continue.”

Despite his moment on SS3, Marczyk reached the midday service halt in third place at the wheel of his Michelin-equipped Škoda Fabia RS Rally2.
