Making his FIA European Rally Championship return on the Tarmac round in early May, Cachón won a thrilling all-Spanish battle for the final podium spot in his Pirelli-shod Toyota GR Yaris Rally2, defeating Diego Ruiloba by 2.7sec.
That was after he started leg two in ninth position and 18sec behind third place having dropped down the order with a damaged tyre after he led outright following stage four.
Cachón beat Georg Linnamäe (SS14, Delfi Rally Estonia), Hayden Paddon (JDS Machinery Rali Ceredigion) and Dominik Stříteský (SS8, Barum Czech Rally Zlin) to the prestigious award.
“It’s such an honour to be rewarded with this recognition for my drive on Rally Islas Canarias,” Cachón said after he was announced as the ERC Drive of the Year award winner during last week’s ERC Awards in Katowice. “I hope to see you next season in some events.”
Cachón is enjoying a strong season in the Supercampeonato de España de Rallyes at the wheel of a Toyota GR Yaris Rally2. The 25-year-old tops the standings and claimed his third victory of the year on RallyRACC Catalunya - Costa Daurada 2024 last weekend alongside co-driver Borja Rozada.
A former Junior ERC driver, Cachón will represent host nation Spain in this week’s FIA Motorsport Games.
