Andrea Mabellini capped off a highly impressive second campaign in the FIA European Rally Championship’s top tier for Team MRF Tyres by being voted ERC Most Improved Driver of the Year for the second season running.
With Virginia Lenzi co-driving, Mabellini claimed a breakthrough ERC podium on JDS Machinery Rali Ceredigion in September before he scored a maiden victory by finishing first on Rally Silesia on 13 October.
The following day, during the ERC Awards in Katowice, Mabellini was announced as the winner of the ERC Most Improved Driver of the Year following an online vote by fans of the championship.
“It’s been an incredible journey in the ERC from Rally5, to Rally4 and now to win in Rally2 is incredible and thank you to everyone who has supported us from the very beginning,” Italian Mabellini said. “We are really happy for this award, the second year in a row to be the ERC Most Improved Driver. Hopefully next year it will be something more.”
Mathieu Franceschi, Mille Johansson and Simone Tempestini were also shortlisted for the ERC Most Improved Driver of the Year award.
