Updated Fabia on show ahead of new ERC season
This is the updated version of the ŠKODA Fabia R5, which is set for action in this season’s FIA European Rally Championship, and expected to deliver more success for the Czech firm.
ŠKODA Motorsport’s replacement for its most successful rally car of all time was unveiled at the Geneva Motorshow during the week. The company’s motorsport head, Michal Hrabánek, is expecting big things.
“The next generation of ŠKODA FABIA R5 is an important step towards keeping both our customers from all around the world and the ŠKODA factory team competitive during the next part of the car’s life cycle,” said Hrabánek, who oversaw ŠKODA Motorsport’s hat-trick of ERC titles between 2012 and 2014.
Among a number of technical changes, the new Fabia R5 features an updated 1.6-litre turbocharged engine offering more power and a better torque curve. Externally, the car gets a new headline design to match its road-going equivalent.
