Why Flying Finn Nordgren’s ERC Roma strategy paid off
Juuso Nordgren said his error-free performance and the experience he gained made up for his lack of outright speed on Rally di Rally di Capitale, which he finished in seventh place.
It was the first time the Finn had gone the distance in this year’s FIA European Rally Championship, which he put down to his risk-free strategy at the wheel of his Wevers Sport-prepared ŠKODA Fabia R5.
“It was not so good from the side of speed but there was a lot of gaining and learning experience,” said the 21-year-old ŠKODA junior driver. “A lot of drivers had problems with punctures and other things but we had a clean and steady rally rather than pushing too much and going outside our comfort zone. It was only my third real Tarmac rally so I didn’t have much experience. But I used this rally to learn and I will take everything from it for the coming rallies.”
