Why Munnings deserves Peugeot Rally Academy chance in ERC
Catie Munnings’ inclusion in the Team Peugeot Rally Academy line-up in this season’s FIA European Rally Championship is the reward for her progression from rookie to established competitor.
That’s according to ERC Co-ordinator Jean-Baptiste Ley, who has followed her career since she entered the European championship in 2016.
Munnings will join French promise Yohan Rossel in the two-strong Team Peugeot Rally Academy attack in the ERC3 category at the wheel of a Peugeot 208 R2, starting with the Azores Rally later this month.
He said: “For Catie to get this opportunity is fantastic news and a reflection on the excellent progress she has made since joining the ERC as a virtual novice in 2016. Her commitment to the ERC and hard work has really paid off. We have no doubt she will make the most of this opportunity.”
Munnings, the ERC Ladies’ Trophy winner in 2016 and a point-scorer on all six ERC Junior rounds in 2018, has been selected as a Red Bull athlete for this season, the first British female race or rally driver to get such recognition.
“I am so excited to begin this new chapter in my sporting career,” said the 21-year-old of her Red Bull support. “Being associated with the top athletes of so many different disciplines is a real honour and very inspirational for me.”
