Mabellini aims for ERC4 gold in Azores

Andrea Mabellini is targeting victory in the hotly contested ERC4 category at the Azores Rallye this week (25 - 27 March).

The Italian finished runner-up at Rally Serras de Fafe - Felgueiras - Cabreira e Boticas earlier this month after posting some impressive in his Renault Clio Rally4.

This weekend he’s hoping to go one better as he gets to grip with gravel.

“It’s my first experience in Azores, and it will be difficult for sure,” Mabellini told FIAERC.com. “So far, we have enjoyed the stages on the recce.

“It will be a difficult for the weather, but let’s see. We are ready and we want to get some good results,” he added.

Paulo Soria is next on the list with his Rally5-specification Clio. Although the Argentine’s focus will be on Clio Trophy by Toksport WRT points, if the weather takes a turn then he could be one to watch for ERC4 honours too.

Ford Fiesta Rally4 pilot Roberto Daprà is back in action after an encouraging debut just two weeks ago, while Clio man Anthony Fotia needs a strong result to make up for his disqualification in Fafe. Ernesto Cunha, who retired at round one, has also entered a Peugeot 208 Rally4.

The rest of the list is covered by Clio Trophy by Toksport WRT runners. They include Frenchman Ghjuvanni Rossi as well as Patrik Herczig, son of Team MRF Tyres driver Norbert.

Reigning Italian Junior champion Giorgio Cogni and his compatriot Andrea Mazzocchi will face up against Turkey’s Emre Hasbay, with Canary Islander Sergio Fuentes also chasing victory.
