Despite illness and JDS Machinery Rali Ceredigion marking Ingram’s first outing on asphalt in his Toyota GR Yaris Rally2, the 2019 ERC title winner was on course for a podium finish when he crashed out on the opening stage of leg two.
The Castrol MEM Rally Team driver explained how his top-two challenge unravelled.
“The speeds are so high that it was just a split-second moment that caught us out under braking on a very shinny section of road,” Ingram said. “The few corners before were shiny and the car had good grip, so I wasn’t expecting this corner to be any different. Unfortunately, there was a little bump in the braking area which caused the rear to lock up and at 110mph it was just like pulling the handbrake. I was a passenger from that moment on.”
With Ingram switching his focus to his British title challenge, the ERC regulars are starting their preparations for the Rally Silesia season finale from 11 - 13 October.
