As well as receiving his trophy for finishing runner-up in the FIA European Rally Championship for Drivers, the 30-year-old picked up the ERC Most Improved Driver of the Year award before being presented with the ERC Drive of the Year accolade, as voted by fans of the ERC, during a memorable night in Zagreb.
The M-Sport Ford World Rally Team driver received 45 per cent of the public vote for his charging drive to his maiden ERC victory on JDS Machinery Rali Ceredigion last month.
Mārtiņš Sesks received 18 of the vote for his dominant run to victory on ORLEN OIL 81st Rally Poland in June as Eyvind Brynildsen (BAUHAUS Royal Rally of Scandinavia) and Andrea Mabellini (ERC Staff House Rally Hungary) tied with 13 per cent of the vote.
Roope Korhonen earned 10 per cent of the vote for winning Hungary’s gravel-based counter.

Looking back on his JDS Machinery Rali Ceredigion victory, Armstrong said: “It was an amazing rally for us to get our first win. We had a big battle with Romet [Jürgenson], he was pushing us hard. To win on what is like our home event was really nice, it was special for me and Shane [Byrne] and we both cried like little babies on the way to the stop line. It’s what you dream of and what you’re pushing for so I’m very happy to win this award as well. And it was so nice to get our second win shortly afterwards. Your shoulders drop and you’re just driving, it gets a bit of the pressure off when you get your first one. Thanks to everyone who voted for me.”
Armstrong was presented with the ERC Drive of the Year award by Jona Siebel, managing director of WRC Promoter GmbH, promoter of the ERC.
